Today's Public Safety Items agenda includes: 1) "Presentations and updates by the Police Department regarding monthly crime statistics, the Traffic Unit, and use of UAS" (Unmanned Aircraft Systems)

2) "An Update Regarding Safety and Nuisance Concerns Caused by Wildlife in the City of Grand Rapids"

@GRDocumenters Meeting begins promptly with GR police chief Eric Winstrom presenting crime statistics.


Traffic unit officer currently describing unit operations, methods, and statistics.


Officer describing traffic safety enforcement methods including radar, motorcycle LIDARs, semi-marked vehicles, etc. to address #1 citizen complaint of speeding.

Now describing UAS (Unmanned Aerial System) drone program overview including software photo interpolation of crash reconstruction scenes.

Discussion with chief Winstrom and committee members concerning equitable placement of speed radar trailers throughout city in attempts to lower speeding cars.

Grand Rapids Public Services Managing Director James Hurt now updating concerns about wildlife nuisances, particularly deer population, resident concerns about landscaping destruction, and deer-vehicle crashes.

Kentwood mayor Stephen Kepley now sharing experiences of his city's deer herd issues similar to Grand Rapids.

Updates anticipated at January meeting after input from regional area partners including GIS mapping of deer populations.
