Next in the meeting an info packet is passed around titled "Background: Community Focused Policing Project & Workforce Allocation Study" This is part of an effort to integrate community-policing departments citywide.

Over the past 9 months, CPD has gathered feedback and insight from various community groups and community members; this has resulted in various reports which care posted publicly here: chicagopolice.org/community-poli…
chicagopolice.org/community-poli…

Based on community representative engagement, some of the things that people want include better response times, more escalation, more visibility, proactive engagement outside of crisis and meaningful metrics/transparency. (See photo of table at the end of this thread).

Lee mentions that a goal of this program is to help people "to see each other." Working to build a bridge between communities and police officers is something Lee iterates is important.

Another form for meeting attendees to fill out is available, where questions are to rank actions regarding police officer engagement. See photo at the end of thread for details. July 7th is the last day for councils to submit responses to CPD.

Perez mentions that 20 district council are currently engaged with this project, all throughout the city. More info will be in the newsletter.

Meeting attendee asks is community members and organizations will be able to use this information as well; Perez continues by saying that they want as wide of a reach as possible throughout the community.

Next up in the meeting is the topic of traffic stops. CCPSA is working with CPD to create a new traffic stops policy that is safe. chicago.gov/city/en/depts/…
chicago.gov/city/en/depts/…

An important change that CCPSA is working towards to remedy current reasonable articulable suspicion (RAS) policies. New policy also will address the need for certain number of "quotas" for officers to be considered for promotion.

Here is a draft of the latest traffic stop policy: chicago.gov/content/dam/ci…

Lee mentions that, personally, traffic stops are necessary while noting that it is important for officers not to put others in danger. Goal is to work towards building situations where both citizens and officers feel safe.

Last item in meeting is to hear feedback is there are any specific subjects or people that community members what to see and hear from at a future meeting. Whether it's for additional information or just clarity on issues that are occurring in the city.

Next meeting is July 29th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the same location - Washington Park Field House (5531 S Martin Luther King Dr.) chicago.gov/content/dam/ci…
