The meeting is called to order at 6:06pm. 7 members are present today, both physically and virtually.

The Agenda and virtual participation for the meeting are approved. The minutes from past meetings, December through April, are approved.

The first presentation is by TaShunda Green, Deputy Chief of the Office of Student Health and Wellness, on “Back to School Health Requirements (Medical Compliance)." Green says they want to respond to community concerns about measles and health requirements for Illinois.

CPS requires students to be medically compliant or face exclusion from school.

Here are some key dates AND immunizations for families to keep in mind:

Green emphasizes that the decline in compliance we see here since the Covid-19 pandemic was mirrored across the country, not just in Chicago. CPS has implemented many measures to address this problem, such as vaccine drives.

Green implores the LSC and greater CPS community to work towards medical compliance.

A few educator members share information and tips on how they've been encouraging students to get vaccinated or have their physicals done.

The next presentation is by Kim Jones, Executive Director of the Student Transportation division. Jones says the deadline for Transportation Requests is Friday, May 30. Schools and families will start receiving information from Student Transportation in August.

Jones says getting all new active requests in by the deadline is important, especially given the increasing need for resources for students with disabilities or housing struggles.

If the deadline is missed, students will not have access to transportation for the first two weeks of school. Transportation routing will be done in July 2025.

The next presentation is by The Alma Group, on the topic: “Community Meetings Regarding the Search for CPS’ Next Leader”. Eliana Pereyra is a representative of the organization that has been tapped to aid in the search for a new CPS Superintendent (CEO)

A member asks if students will be surveyed, re: what they'd like to see in a CPS Superintendent. Pereyra says they are working on this and a few more suggestions are given from members on how to connect with students.

There is discussion and time allotted for public comment. One commenter, Sharnetta Lovelady, discusses their school's issues with finding a principal among the budget and transportation struggles.

There is a presentation by Kishasha Williams-Ford, Director of the Office of LSC Relations, on the budget approvals and timeline.

This is the final meeting of this school year. Williams-Ford extends some gratitude for the committee.
