The meeting was officially called to order at 10:44am by @brianforchicago Brian Hopkins, Chair of the Committee of Public Safety and Alderman of the 2nd Ward.

There were no public comments so the first speaker was from the agenda appt, Francisco Velez, the Director of the Office of Emergency Management and Communications.

Aldermen from various wards expressed their support, highlighting Velez' qualifications & commitment to public safety. The committee approved the appointment, which will be ratified by the city council on May 21.

The Director is asked about preparations for extreme weather events, such as summer heatwaves. Velez says there is a plan to host 'Summer Weather Workshops,' continuing to work with media outlets & app networks everyday.

It was not clear to me when or where these weather workshops are, but Chicago OEMC App is meant provide access to real-time weather alerts, safety tips, and information on emergency services. @ChicagoOEMC

@ChicagoOEMC Director Velez states, "The Emergency Operation plan for 2025 supports and complies with the National Incident Management System." @ChicagoOEMC @ChiCouncil
