Committee reviews long list of legislation ahead of council's summer recess

Watch the afternoon session live with me on @YouTube or @TV20Cleveland.
Nice elevator music as we wait for the meeting to begin 👍🏾 https://t.co/FOv3jieHMK

Meeting resumed at 2pm and the first item is…
Emergency ordinance 657-2023
Relating to Youth Services & The Justice System https://t.co/GfHvlbCIGL

First question from council is from Councilperson Michael Polensek. “…approaching 80 homicides & growing violence trends… 6 violence interrupters is not enough when we need 2-4 in each Ward. The problems are in the streets, will this only target those coming out of facilities?”

This grant would cover programming and assistance to 75 young males, ages 14-21, over the next two years.
Councilperson Joseph Jones has concerns about the high dollar amount for the grant and small target group. https://t.co/vFmMIc2T3l

Ordinance 657-2023 stands approved by @Griff4CLE6 as he notes that most of these ordinances have been vetted before today.

The room is talking Riverfront development plus amenities for public improvements that would begin construction in 2025/26 👀 #LakeErie #GreatLakes https://t.co/3VNNpS4NnJ

Councilperson @R1chardStarr is voicing his concern over WHICH streets actually need resurfacing.
“We are still dealing with issues from the 1960s…” -Starr

A vote was held in the room to support an additional $10 million dollars on #ResidentialResurfacing #BackToBasics … it has been that noted there is an error on the agenda relating to this topic.

“How do we utilize these dollars for traffic calming {speeding cars on residential streets specifically} ?”
-@KerryMcCormack1

@Griff4CLE6 reiterates that there are 10-15 more pieces of legislation to review; this meeting is time sensitive and rolling 🚲!!

The room is having a robust conversation about specific locations that may need street traffic upgrades 👍🏾
