Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 2/77

This is the link for the Meeting earlier

Its a bit longer than usual but there’s some things going on in the department and the city…
Julie Trott read the preamble and the Meeting was started

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 3/77

First order of business @playhousesquare wants a new marquee! https://t.co/aAfu8iDFxl

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 4/77

Many people are attached to the project according to the spokesperson with more to come.. the marquee and other signage and TV are now 10 years old.. the speaker has been in with the company decades. And is confident that the project respects the guidelines

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 5/77

In comparison to Lincoln Square and other destinations in the country, the company feels it has a brand. The exterior while modern respects the interior architecture and design

The marquees in question are the Hanna and other places in the area..

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 6/77

Various types of changes have occurred in the past century. These are the most recent https://t.co/UkB32ynEIF

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 7/77

These are the proposed changes to the project. The choice of materials is sensitive to the daytime appearance as well https://t.co/5VLztRCW8W

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 8/77

The Allen Theater is one of the areas. Serious deterioration has occurred.. dimensions are considered.
Euclid Avenue used to be a trolley car street.
This is the current idea https://t.co/IH9DtWSJkT

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 9/77

It is able to be removed without damaging the architecture of the exterior.. gold paint is used to pick up daytime and night lighting..
The curvature of the original door is kept.

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 10/77

Drainage is a consideration. Structural materials have been in respect to the needs of the project.. colors are being used..

Domed Security is inculcated in the design. With every customer in mind. In the entire project. Full color LED Light is used

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 11/77

The letters are back lighted.. the Buckley Building currently don’t have a marquee. The entrance is historic.
Now the people of #Cleveland will know that there are other theaters inside this is the proposed version https://t.co/hcQEzfYZ86

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 12/77

Original stones are to be kept from the renovation
The Ohio theater has damages from renovations from the 78 job. The new sign is going to be closer to the building as the others.. this is the ceiling and proposed changes https://t.co/8cleWEsSjs

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 13/77

The same treatment is planned for the State theater which is badly damaged by normal conditions. The modified marquee will have a slope enclosed. Same colors…grand hall extended in red…
Connor Palace is the next one presented

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 14/77

Similar but it is larger than the other ones.. the ceiling is coming outside as well..
The Hanna across the street is in serious need of updating
This is the plan. https://t.co/MyJriRVd8H

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 15/77

This sign is proposed for the 2nd floor https://t.co/EhkOtZstI4

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 16/77

Lighting is a special feature for the business. Quite a bit of details are used during this presentation.. the paint suggested reflective the light..

Shannen Leonard said the code has restrictions
These non conforming factors speak to entertainment area

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 17/77

She cannot give variance but the Landmark committee can..

Currently they have 11 stages and theater
Parcel number allows the actions necessary
Allison Hennie from City planning department commended the work so far

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 18/77

There wasn’t an unanimous decision on this Hennie said.. this was the first time seeing this.
The commission is weighing in..
Mostly positive input on the consistent branding but more change would be nice said Carter Edman who had to leave early https://t.co/W4UOkjPLVI

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 19/77

Karl Brunjes made a relevant point about the history of the area. Each theater had its own unique design.. each one competed with the other
Further research showed evidence of the grand scale marquees of the past https://t.co/YiZqLKeTRT

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 20/77

Staff approved with conditions
Commission continues with Strickland who said the area is the busiest.

Trott said she supports this idea.
The blade signs are the question she has.. some modifications are planned without painting them. Trott disagreed

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 21/77

She further questions the name of the Great Lake Hanna .. she wants to know how the blade signs are integrated into the idea

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 22/77

She supports with conditions
Bonezzi lives in the area and likes the idea but has issues with some details of font size of the names of each theater Ohio and State in particular

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 23/77

Michelle Anderson is in support of the project.. she trusts several partners but questions the additional signs.. to accommodate the additional theaters..

Brancatelli spoke to his support for the project
Details of the blade and other things are questioned

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 24/77

The presenter went through the history of planning this project.
Up to this date.. he spoke of an article published somewhat prematurely..

Another presenter Danny was apologetic and wanted to share his screen. Side by side show the difference between them

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 25/77

He spoke to the driver and pedestrian experience is different thus the blade signs vs
Flat are there

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 26/77

Letter fonts are reflective of the brand that is the former Hanna

More applicants spoke to research and inspiration from other places.. mention of ornaments and scrolls etc traditional style on each of these

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 27/77

@GLBC_Cleveland is the sponsor for the #Hanna theater
Thus, the reason for the font of the project there.
The finished product is expected in June 2023..
The vote is going to be individual on each project.. 7

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 28/77

Next applicants on the West side

Zach Cooper is the first presenter for the project https://t.co/ma6xX385lS

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 34/77

Cooper has lived in many places but has been drawn back to #Cleveland excited to be part of the growth
He turns it over the development team
Katalin Tomascheks’ research shows the building dates to the late 1800s its architecture is a great feature https://t.co/MvO33jKNZF

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 35/77

A funeral home was opened in the building. And it has several storefronts and staircases

Additional signs and changes over the years
Part of the structure was damaged
Water and weather damage has occurred.

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 36/77

After speaking with a previous owner he said the architect was ahead of his time with the art deco features and current idea

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 37/77

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 42/77

Trott opened the floor
For comments
Bonezzi loves the design of the project but has concerns about the parking spaces.. given the business plan on limited use he supports wanting other opinions

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 43/77

Natural stone restoration is another comments from the commission and the #ArtDeco styling
Additional space use is another concern
Zach Cooper said that he plans to use the area for wedding suits etc..

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 44/77

Establishing a great space for men to get ready for the project
Liquor service is a small part of the membership said Cooper
Thus the parking is not a great deal in his words.. shop and drink and perhaps become a member like CUPS…

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 45/77

Modern respects and entertainment is the General purpose..
Granite is a sharp contrast that was agreed upon..
This is an ongoing process but the darker material is a part of the plan.

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 46/77

Partial coverage is the reason but we plan to use them in the structure Cooper said.
She further questioned other windows

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 47/77

These are double hung and the replacement is intended to be the same type.. adjustment can be made the architect said
Anderson said she likes the design of the project but the black canopy and other places gives concern as other members said

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 48/77

Further discussion about the parking area from Anderson
Trott also appreciates the attention to the project
She would prefer keeping the windows.. she has issues with the parking as well she doesn’t fully support but asked for a motion

Stronger conditions with the parking were suggested by Giancarlo and Brunjes the motion was amended

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 62/77

Staff reports show it was tabled earlier because of lack of quorum and the previous comments on restoration

City landbank would get it if its a lot
Structures are county landbank usually

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 63/77

How did the taxes get so high was asked.. Brancatelli explained that although the many structures are delinquent only a few are actually torn down..

The history and other aspects of the house he illustrated that the house had been on the radar for some time. Its not beyond repair. He spoke of the large number of vacant homes in Ward9

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 65/77

Whether or not it’s appropriate there are no programs to address the issue 1500+ parcels in the ward as well 8 homes in the same area.. Brunjes said with such conviction
“We cannot demolish our way to better communities…

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 66/77

Historical preservation has been used to restore areas like Tremont Gordon Square didn’t just happen overnight.. Brunjes continued he has been working with other people in order to preserve.. he asked for 6 months to get restoration

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 67/77

No permits were taken out in 1996 because of special circumstances and financial

Now open to the remaining members
Bonezzi is in agreement with Brunjes in that this only happens in the same area.

It will take going beyond solution to save neighborhood

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 68/77

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 69/77

Brancatelli spoke to the new construction vs the vacant lot

Anderson agrees with Bonezzi
The home has quality of the neighborhood that will not be replaced with new plastic homes..it’s immensely frustrating https://t.co/S4AtOqtedt

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 70/77

There should be a system in place.. with resources she said

Costs associated are asbestos surveys and demolition of 25k or more is costing the people too..

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 71/77

How do we get resources in order not to continue to demolish Anderson questioned..
Brancatelli tells of over 25 million dollars set aside
Other CDC in the area are using the funds.. awareness of the vacant housing before the onset of dilapidated homes

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 72/77

Alex from the city said building capacity would take real work

We need real options

Brancatelli said he made a visit to the area. Spoke with the people in the area.
There’s shiny apples in the area.. what costs associated with the property is too much

Denise A@cleDocumenter @CleDocuDenise 75/77

Anderson spoke to the demolition in Tremont that she doesn’t want repeating continuously..
She agrees no program is the problem..
