6:00 p.m. — 8:00 p.m. CDT
- Introduced the new Civil Rights Director Michelle Phillips.
- Discussed a proposed amendment to the city’s Civil Rights Ordinance to add homelessness as a protected class.
- Phillips suggested that they start with creating a definition of homelessness, and then an ordinance will grow from there.
- Commissioner Pentelovitch said that they should survey other legislation so the commission doesn’t “step over toes” when trying to define this category of people.
- With questions about who fits under the term “homeless,” the commission tabled the discussion until August, when they will have a chance to speak with Council Member Jason Chavez.
