The City Planning Commission, established in 1915, is a body of seven members; six are appointed by the mayor and one is a member of City Council. The commission is supported by a staff of professional planners and architects. The City Charter gives the commission responsibility for preparing plans to guide “development and improvement” of the city and its neighborhoods, and for reviewing all legislation and other matters that concern the “use or development of land.”

@signalcleveland @cledocumenters What are zoning regulations? laws that control the use of land and the development of buildings and the City Planning office prepares changes to the Zoning Code and the Zoning Map and advises the Board of Zoning Appeals on the granting of Zoning Variances.

@signalcleveland @cledocumenters Property owners can request a variance to a zoning law by submitting an appeal for changes to the City’s Zone Code. Certain development projects are subject to “design review” before the City can issue a Building Permit.

@signalcleveland @cledocumenters Ben Trimble, Chief Real Estate Officer with Ohio City Inc. says the organization is not in favor of or against the proposed changes but would like the Planning Commission to take a second look at some of the changes such as affordability of some projects.

@signalcleveland @cledocumenters A resident, at the meeting, gives public comment regarding more information on new Townhouse construction in Tremont, including a police presence since petty crime has become an issue.

Lillian Kuri, Chairwoman of the City Planning Commission says the CPC has been waiting for updated zoning laws for a long time, which helps them do their job.
