The Accessibility Advisory Board will: (1) advise the Mayor and Council on policies and issues relating to accessibility; (2) advise the Mayor and Council regarding City compliance with federal, state, and local disability and access codes, rules, regulations, and laws; (3) make recommendations to the Mayor and Council for improving communications between the disabled community and City government; (4) perform accessibility studies and surveys as requested by the Mayor or Council; and (5) provide an annual report to the Mayor and Council detailing the activities and recommendations of the Board.

The city’s Access Compliance Specialist with its ADA Compliance and Accessibility Program, Alejandra Warner, presented alternatives for tactile walking surfaces and parallel curb ramps which are ways for people with vision disabilities to find their way around the city.

The City of San Diego’s Office of Boards and Commissions was created in 2018 to support the day-to-day operations for the City’s 49 boards and commissions and serves as an access point to the volunteer members appointed by the Mayor and City Council.

These entities serve in a fiduciary, regulatory, policy-setting and/or advisory capacity. The Office includes the existing executive directors and staff positions that support the following: Accessibility Advisory Board, Commission for Arts and Culture, Community Review Board on Police Practices, Commission on Gang Prevention and Intervention, and Human Relations Commission.
